How this blog came to be!

This blog is the result of purchasing a pair of Bluetooth headphones for $26!

I needed some wireless headphones for working in the datacenter I manage so off to Amazon I went. Being both frugal and broke I opted for a set with good run time, good reviews and most of all a good price for my budget. So, new headphones in hand I began my DC work fixing things, cabling things and inventorying things to my heart’s desire. I listened to music of course, audiobooks from Audible and anywhere else I could find. One such book was a one of the free one through Audible if you have a prime account. The book happened to be “No Excuses” by Brian Tracy and the part that stuck the most while listening to it was that to be successful you needed to set goals and spend money (10% was recommended for training and buying books and such) and time bettering yourself for the job you have and the job you want.
After hearing this I mulled the new information over a while and decided to change my path. Instead of science fiction I began listening to IT and DevOps related books. I found podcast that talked about Linux, Sysadmins, AWS and Development and listened to them while working, driving back and forth to work and anywhere else I could. I started watching more technical YouTube videos and a lot of tech talks and deep dives on subjects I heard about on the podcast I listened to. I began looking through online training catalogs and started going through training that was useful for my job.
About this time, I saw an ad on Facebook for Udemy with courses only costing $10 so I looked through the offerings and noticed the same Acloud.guru courses I was contemplating buying for $80 would only cost me $30 for the set of 3 AWS Associate classes. Excited to take the chance at learning AWS and getting certified I purchased all 3 classes. I signed up for the free AWS account and started in on the Solutions Architect class completing it in a month since I took a few weeks off to study some other information pertinent to my current position. I learned a ton during that first class and am now certain I want to learn more about AWS and get these certifications.
To push myself more I have set a date of 31 July 2017 for taking my Solutions Architect Certification exam and will be booking the test soon. I have also registered for the 14 August 2017 AWS Summit in New York and purchased the tickets for the train up already.
Now that we are past all the fluff I will let you know that I hope to post about what I learn, how I learn it and hopefully by doing so I better my knowledge of the subjects I learn and maybe help someone else learn them too. So, you see that simple purchase of a cheap pair of Bluetooth headphones led me down a path that will lead to me getting my AWS certifications and hopefully more as time goes on.
If you are still reading this jumbled mess I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and I hope if I post something informative you got some benefit from it.

Thank you,

Matt Brown
